[DarkEternal's Review]: Agalloch's 2002 offering, The Mantle, is a beautifully atmospheric album that incorporates doom metal growls and melodic guitar passages. Acoustic guitar passages are also used quite liberally and are usually extensive. The album is easily among one of the more beautiful that I've heard. Its lyrical matter focues mainly on earth imagery and nature and it perfectly accompanies the music. It's a very dark album with a feel of loss, despair, and intense introspection. This makes it very enjoyable to doom metal fans, but really, anyone could immerse themselves in the dark acoustic passages of this 68-minute epic.
