Abgott - Artefact Of Madness (2006)

Artist: Abgott
Album: Artefact Of Madness
Year: 2006
Country: United Kingdom

Style: Avant Black Metal

[Transcendency's Review]: A great release from a sadly underrated band. Abgott have pioneered a style of unique Black Metal. Gone is the thin production and super-raw sound of traditional BM, and what Abgott has replaced it with is really something quite special. There is still the Mayhem-esque BM riffing in the foreground, but this is intertwined with jazzy guitar licks, and an overall more experimental Black Metal sound. However, purists need not worry, as this album still manages to retain a raw edge. The overall sound is cold and grim, as you'd expect of a good BM release, but it's laced with a technicality that you wouldn't expect from the black metal scene. It's an ambitious album that truly rewards the listener. Well worth a listen.
