Lykathea Aflame - Elvenefris (2000)

Artist: Lykathea Alfame
Album: Elvenefris

Year: 2000
Country: Czech Republic
Genre: Technical Death Metal

[Transcendency's Review]:
A Czech technical death metal outfit formed in 1999, after having previously been known as Appalling Spawn. This is their only release under the name of Lykathea Aflame, and it is definitly a defining album. A truly unique death metal album, covering the brutal to the ambient. Great music, well worth the listen.

[DarkEternal's
Review]: This is, without a doubt, one of the best death metal albums I have ever heard. Deviating from typical death metal subject matter, this epic work of art speaks of a journey of spiritual evolution to inner light, wisdom, and understanding. The instrumentation will overwhelm the listener with a masterful, epic soundscape. Tomas Corn's drumming is refined and astounding, but always appropriate to the music and never overblown. Ptoe's undecipherable growls somehow create a yearning, melancholy atmosphere. It is extremely hard to describe, but an earth-shattering album such as this must be experienced by all. This 72-minute treck to Elvenefris can be described as nothing short of beautiful, which is something that very few death metal albums can brag. Even so, the presence of thick guitar, unbelievably guttural vocals and Cryptopsy-esque drumming is abundant enough to satisfy fans of the most brutal bands. Overall, any music fan owes it to themselves to give this album a listen. Highlights include Bringer of Elvenefris Flame and A Step Closer.
